IPL Photofacial Q & A

What is an IPL facial?

An intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial is a laser skin treatment that uses IPL to target cells in the deeper layers of your skin without harming the surface area. IPL therapy works by damaging the cells that produce pigment and stimulating the production of collagen.

Once the IPL laser breaks up pigment cells, your body’s natural immune process eliminates them naturally. The increased production of collagen enhances new cell regrowth and improves the elasticity and tone of your skin.

What conditions can an IPL facial address?

An IPL photofacial addresses blemishes, visible signs of aging, and other common skin concerns. The team at Advantage Women’s Care uses the Cutera® laser to perform IPL facials to improve the appearance of the following skin conditions:

  • Dull skin
  • Dark spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sagging skin
  • Rosacea
  • Acne scarring

The team at Advantage Women’s Care also uses IPL treatments with the Cutera laser for spider vein removal.

What should I expect during an IPL facial?

An IPL facial takes 30 minutes or less, making them convenient to schedule during your lunch hour or whenever you have a break in your busy schedule. The procedure isn’t painful and there’s no downtime required, so you can return to normal activities right after your appointment.

You’ll relax in a reclined position, and your Advantage Women’s Care provider gives you protective eyewear and applies a cooling gel to your face. She then passes the laser tool over your face. You may feel a sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band against your skin, but this is usually tolerable.

How many treatments do I need?

This depends on your personal goals for treatment, skin type, and other individual factors. Typically, a series of 3-5 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results.

Following your initial consultation, your Advantage Women’s Care provider designs a custom treatment plan to achieve stunning skin rejuvenation results from IPL therapy.
